How much does a website cost in 2026?

It depends on what is built and who builds it, which is why a single "average price" is close to useless. The calculator above adds up published price ranges for each part of the job, so you can see where the money goes. For a small business brochure site, the guides we used put a typical UK small agency at £3,000 to £8,000 (CloudSwitched and Expertsure), US agency design at $3,000 to $30,000 or more (WebFX), and a small German agency at €2,500 to €8,000 (Sellwerk).

How wide each published brochure site range is: the top of the US range is 10 times the bottom, the UK range 2.7 times and the EU range 3.2 times.US agency$3,000 to $30,000+ (WebFX)10×UK small agency£3,000 to £8,000 (CloudSwitched)2.7×EU small agency (Germany)€2,500 to €8,000 (Sellwerk)3.2×
How wide each published brochure site range is, top divided by bottom, in its own currency. The US figure is one range for all agency design work, while the UK and EU figures are for small agencies. That spread is why the calculator asks for your scope first.

How to read these figures. Every range below is quoted as its source published it, in its own currency, with no conversion. Most are price guides from agencies, platforms and comparison sites. The French figures in the EU section are different: they are the middle half of real project budgets collected by La Fabrique du Net, and they include freelancers. Treat all of them as a map of the market, not a quote.

Starting prices

Ask for a fixed-price proposal for any of these types.

DEMARCA figures are our own starting prices for the base build of each type, in the currency you pick; your fixed-price proposal sets the final figure. Market figures are ranges published by other sources and may cover a different scope.

UK figures use the small agency column of the CloudSwitched guide. The same guide puts large UK agencies at £3,000 to £8,000 for a landing page and £8,000 to £25,000 for a brochure site, and Expertsure says London full-service agencies start around £8,000.

Website prices in the EU

There is no official price survey for websites in Europe. Sellwerk says as much for Germany, where its table is built from prices that German agencies and freelancers publish. So the EU column in the calculator is German small agency pricing, to match the small agency basis of the UK column, and the French and Irish figures below are context. No range is blended into an average.

Source and countryBrochure or small business siteOnline store
La Fabrique du Net, France (agency budgets, middle half)€2,000 to €8,000€3,000 to €40,000
Sellwerk, Germany (published agency prices)€2,500 to €8,000 (small agency) and €5,000 to €25,000 (agency)€5,000 to €50,000+
VIMAR, Ireland (agency price guide)€1,500 to €7,000€2,500 to €20,000+

The French figures are the 25th to 75th percentile of 380 brochure site budgets and 261 online store budgets that agencies listed on La Fabrique du Net, with medians of €3,500 and €10,000. That is the closest thing to real market data we found, but it includes freelancer budgets, which pulls the low end down, so the calculator does not use it as its EU basis. It uses German agency figures: Sellwerk for one-page and brochure sites, because its tiers match the page counts; Experte.de for stores, which puts agency offers for individual shops at €5,000 to €20,000 (Sellwerk's shop tier, €5,000 to €50,000+, agrees on the low end); and WZ-IT for custom web apps, at €10,000 to €25,000 for a simple MVP and €25,000 to €60,000 for a mid-size business app (Sellwerk puts individual development at €20,000 and up).

Logo and brand identity costs

Most websites start from a brand. If yours does not have one yet, the logo and identity usually come first, and they are priced as separate projects.

Who designs itTypical US priceTypical UK priceTypical EU price
Freelancer or small studio, logo$250 to $2,500 (Shopify, freelancers)£500 to £3,000 (Inkbot Design)€3,500 to €5,000, logo and basic guidelines for a small business (La Fabrique du Net)
Design firm or agency, logo$2,500 to $10,000 (Shopify)£3,000 to £25,000, logo and identity (Inkbot Design)€5,000 to €30,000, middle half of agency logo projects (La Fabrique du Net)
Boutique agency, full identity$5,000 to $20,000 (Knapsack Creative)£3,000 to £25,000 (Inkbot Design)€5,000 to €40,000, middle half of visual identity projects (La Fabrique du Net)
Global branding consultancyNot priced in our sources£25,000 to £150,000+ (Inkbot Design)Not priced in our sources

A full identity costs more than a logo because it is a system: the mark, a color palette, typography, usage rules and the first applications. If you only need to see how a palette or a logo set behaves before you commit, our color palette generator and brand guidelines template are free.

Basic SEO setup at launch$750 to $1,250 (Collaborada)£300 to £1,000 (Whito)Part of Sellwerk's small agency range for a brochure site; €2,500 to €12,000 for SEO and analytics setup on other builds (UnFoldMart)

Integration with other software$2,000 to $25,000, database integration (WebFX)£300 to £2,000 per integration (Red Eagle Tech)€1,500 to €8,000 per interface (Sellwerk)
Translation$0.10 to $0.30 per word (Centus)£80 to £150 per 1,000 words plus VAT (Absolute Translations)€0.10 to €0.20 per word, agencies (La Fabrique du Net)
Each page beyond about 10$200 per page (BitMap Media)£200 to £500 per page (Expertsure)€380 to €450 per page (WebFluence Digital, Ireland)

One-off build costs and running costs

A quote for a website is a one-off price. Hosting and maintenance are paid every month or every year after launch, so the calculator keeps them out of the total and lists them on their own.

Running costUSUKEU
Hosting$2 to $1,000 a month (WebFX)£50 to £300 a year (Whito)€50 to €500+ a year (VIMAR, Ireland)
Maintenance or care plan$5 to $5,000 a month (WebFX)£50 to £200 a month (Whito)€35 to €200+ a month (VIMAR, Ireland)

The US hosting and maintenance ranges are very wide because WebFX covers everything from shared hosting to large enterprise sites. For a small business site, the low end of each range is the relevant one.

What drives the price

Pages and content

Every page needs design, content and testing. Expertsure puts the cost of each extra page at roughly £200 to £500 with a UK agency. Content is the cost people forget: Whito notes that most web designers expect you to supply the text, and puts professional copywriting at £50 to £150 per page in the UK. NEWMEDIA puts a simple website page at $300 to $1,000 from US copywriters.

Design and development

Most agencies quote the build as one figure. CloudSwitched breaks a typical UK agency brochure budget into design (30 to 35%), development (35 to 40%) and project management, testing and launch (10 to 15%). Sellwerk puts concept and design at 20 to 30% of a German website budget. None of our US sources publishes a split, so the calculator shows design and development as one line.

Functionality

A contact form is cheap. Payments, booking, member areas, product catalogs and integrations with other software are what move a project from thousands to tens of thousands. Sellwerk puts each connection to a CRM, ERP or payment provider at €1,500 to €8,000, and WebFX puts database integration at $2,000 to $25,000.

Branding

A website without a logo usually needs one first. Shopify lists US design firms at $2,500 to $10,000 for a logo; Inkbot Design places UK small studios at £500 to £3,000 and boutique branding studios at £3,000 to £25,000 for logo and identity work. A full identity (logo, colors, type and guidelines) costs more than a logo because it is a system, not a single mark.

SEO and languages

Basic SEO setup at launch (titles, descriptions, structure, analytics) is often quoted separately: £300 to £1,000 in the UK according to Whito, and $750 to $1,250 for a basic setup in Collaborada's US guide. A second language is mostly translation, priced per word: $0.10 to $0.30 per word from agencies (Centus) and £80 to £150 per 1,000 words plus VAT at a UK agency (Absolute Translations).

Who builds it

Location matters as much as scope. Whito lists UK agency rates at £60 to £150 an hour, and London agencies sit at the top of every range. La Fabrique du Net finds the same effect in France, where projects from the Paris region carry a median about 50% higher than the rest of the country. Price depends on the scope, the seniority of the people doing the work, the deliverables and the risk the studio takes on; studios outside London, New York or Paris often price the same scope lower because their costs are lower, not because they do less. DEMARCA is an independent design and marketing studio in Portugal, working with clients in the US, the UK and across Europe.

How to get an accurate quote

  1. List the pages and say which ones you will write yourself.
  2. List what the site must do: forms, bookings, payments, integrations.
  3. Collect two or three sites you like and say what you like about each one.
  4. Give a budget range and a deadline. A good studio will tell you what fits.
  5. Ask for a fixed price with the number of revision rounds written in, and what ongoing costs (hosting, maintenance, licences) look like after launch.

The proposal button in the calculator adds the scope you built to your request, so you do not have to type it again. You can edit it or leave it out before you send.

Methodology and limits

Formula
For the market you pick, each line takes the range its source published. The one-off total adds the lows together and the highs together. Lines priced per page are multiplied by the number of pages; translation is pages times 400 words times extra languages times the per-word rate. A "+" means at least one source gave no upper limit. Lines with no published figure are shown as not priced and add nothing.
Assumptions
About 400 words per page, used only to turn a per-word translation rate into a page total. A brochure site includes up to 10 pages; pages above 10 are added per page where a source prices them. A one-page site counts as one page. Product pages and app screens are part of the store or app range. An integration means one connection to one other system.
Markets
US: guides and price pages from US agencies and platforms, plus one global guide for custom web apps (Utsubo). UK: UK agency and comparison guides. EU: German small agency pricing from Sellwerk, Experte.de and WZ-IT for the build, with La Fabrique du Net (France) and VIMAR and WebFluence Digital (Ireland) for logos, extras and running costs, and one Europe-wide guide (UnFoldMart) for CMS and SEO setup. Each market keeps its own currency, with no conversion.
Period
Sources dated from January 2025 to October 2026; the French budgets were recalculated on 13 October 2026. Sellwerk's page shows no date. Every figure was checked against its source page on 13 or 15 October 2026.
One-off and recurring
The total is the one-off build. Hosting and maintenance are listed separately, per month or per year as the source published them, and are never added to the total.
Not included
Contingency: UK guides warn that costs left out of a quote add 20 to 40% (CloudSwitched) or 30 to 50% (Whito); we do not add it, because most of those costs are already lines in the calculator. Also left out: VAT where the source excludes it, your own team's time, photography and licences. Clutch publishes useful agency figures, but its pages could not be fetched directly when we checked them, so its numbers stay off the page until they are verified by hand.
Partial estimates
When a line you selected has no published price in a market, it is excluded from that market's total and the total is labelled a partial estimate, with the number of excluded items.
Our own price
DEMARCA's own price range for your scope is shown in the proposal box under the result, in the currency of the market you pick. It is never part of the market total. Share the scope and we send a fixed-price proposal: a written offer that fixes the price for the scope it describes. It becomes a contract price only once you accept it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to have someone design a website for you?

It depends on who builds it and what it has to do. WebFX lists agency design at $3,000 to $30,000 or more in the US, UK guides put a small agency brochure site at £3,000 to £8,000 (CloudSwitched, Expertsure), and Sellwerk puts a small German agency at €2,500 to €8,000. Use the calculator above to price your own scope line by line.

Why is the range so wide?

Because each source publishes a range, not a price, and the calculator adds those ranges line by line, so the gaps add up too. The low end is usually a template-based build from a small agency, the high end a custom design with more pages, integrations and rounds of review. The French data shows the spread is real: the middle half of brochure site budgets runs from €2,000 to €8,000, and online stores from €3,000 to €40,000.

Do these prices include hosting and maintenance?

No. The total is the one-off build only. Hosting and maintenance are listed under it as running costs, per month or per year as each source published them: for example £50 to £300 a year for hosting and £50 to £200 a month for a care plan in the UK (Whito). Ask any studio to put both in writing next to the build price.

Why doesn't DEMARCA show its own price here?

Because a range from a calculator is not a quote, and we would rather price your actual scope than publish a number that fits nobody. Share the scope you built and we send a fixed-price proposal within one working day; it becomes a contract price only once you accept it. The ranges on this page are other agencies' published figures, not ours.

What is the average cost of building a website in the UK?

Whito puts what most UK small businesses pay at £3,000 to £6,000, with a five page agency brochure site at £3,000 to £5,000. Expertsure has regional agencies at £3,000 to £8,000 and London agencies from about £8,000. Treat these as ranges, not a single average.

How much does a website cost from an agency in Europe?

We found no official survey, so the EU column uses three published sources. La Fabrique du Net's agency budgets in France put the middle half of brochure sites at €2,000 to €8,000; Sellwerk puts a small German agency at €2,500 to €8,000 for 5 to 10 pages; VIMAR puts an Irish small business site at €1,500 to €7,000. The calculator keeps these in euros, with no conversion.

How much does it cost to design a logo?

Shopify puts freelancers at $250 to $2,500 and design firms at $2,500 to $10,000. In the UK, Inkbot Design places independent designers and small studios at £500 to £3,000 and boutique branding studios at £3,000 to £25,000. In France, a logo with basic guidelines for a small business runs €3,500 to €5,000 in La Fabrique du Net's agency data.
